Overview

Dr. Shashi Kant is a widely recognized epidemiologist and public health specialist. He joined the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, in 1992 as a faculty member, becoming a Professor of Community Medicine in 2005. He has headed the department since 2016.


In addition to his postgraduate degree in Community Medicine, Dr. Kant holds Master’s degrees in Business Administration (from Delhi University) and Applied Epidemiology (from the Australian National University, Canberra). A dedicated mentor, he has guided more than 40 postgraduate and PhD students.


With a special focus on vaccine effectiveness trials, Dr. Kant has published over 100 research papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has provided expert advice to the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) of India since 1998, and his other key interests include HIV/AIDS, anemia, and non-communicable diseases.


Dr. Kant currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Committee of many national government institutions and is a member of the Governing Body of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur. He is also the past National President of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine, a professional body for public health specialists.
